Microsoft is “absolutely” in the talks with Sony over cross platform play. Unfortunately Sony is not currently going for the idea. This is what Microsoft marketing manager Aaron Greenberg told popular video game site “Game Reactor”. Microsoft has on several occasions expressed interest in connecting Xbox Live And Playstation Network.
Microsoft Xbox One and Nintendo Switch are currently connected online for the game Minecraft. Microsoft also reached out to Sony over the idea of having cross play in Minecraft but Sony declined. Jim Ryan, Playstation executive gave a reason why he thought it may not be such a good idea to connect the two services for Minecraft. According to Ryan the company was/ is concerned with the safety of Playstation users, stating that exposing PSN to another service would expose users making it more difficult to control. Microsoft does not seem to be as concerned with the potential risk, or at least not enough to discourage the idea.
This is something most of us would love to see happen, we all have friends that are scattered across the two platforms. Part of what goes into the decision of which system to buy has to do with what system your friends are going to buy. Different people like different platforms for different reasons. Imagine how nice it would be to have the system you want and also be able to play with your friends who chose a different platform than you.
Many people believe the day will come and that it is inevitable. For me it can not come soon enough.
