Microsoft Studios has a new vice president. A vacancy was created in September of last year when former vice president Phil Spencer was promoted to executive vice president. Matt Booty, former head of Microsoft’s Minecraft Group will now fill Spencer’s former role as vice president.
Matt Booty, prior to his time at Microsoft, was involved in the development of such games as Mortal Combat at Midway Studios before becoming CEO of Midway in 2008. In 2010 he would leave Midway to become head of Redman Studio’s and would later head Mojang in 2015.
As stated in an interview with Venture Beat, this move “beefs up the company’s ability to move quickly in games”. Matt Booty in his new position will be tasked with over seeing the development of such games as Halo and Age of Empires.
