Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 set to launch ahead of fierce competition.

The official announcement by Treyarch and Activision is that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is set to launch October 12th of this year. The Black Ops series was first released in 2010 and has had unprecedented success to date. The 2010 release sold close to 6 million copies within just a few days of its initial release, which improved on the record set by COD Modern Warfare. Activision recorded sales of over $1 billion in less than 2 months for the first Black Ops game. The 2nd COD Black Ops game was also well received in November 2012 and the 3rd Black Ops game in the series was subsequently released in November 2015. There has been talk of a movie release as well, but as yet, there has been no official announcement from the game makers in this regard.

There are hints that the new Call of Duty Black Ops 4 game will contain zombies, which has proved popular in the past as well. The type of weaponry is still under wraps with the game having made use of past, future and current weapons in the various releases. Another possible new addition would be the release of COD for Nintendo Switch. There have also been suggestions that Modern Warfare 2 will be remastered sometime this year or next year, a move which looks to be quite popular with fans of the first person shooter classic.

Black Ops 4 will be the 15th Call of Duty title and trailers have been released online for the new game. The original Black Ops game was released as the 7th COD release and was only the 3rd to be developed by Treyarch. The first Black Ops was set in 1960 during the Cold War and featured real world locations and historic weapons. Subsequent Black Ops have been futuristic as well as based in near future times with weapons from the various eras. Call of Duty Black Ops 4 is likely to be based in current times and will include modern weaponry.

Historically, COD games have launched in early November, but with such anticipated titles like Battlefield 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 set to launch around the same time, the publisher may have felt pressured to launch their game much earlier than usual. Red Dead Redemption 2 is scheduled to be released October 26th 2018, although no exact date has been given for Battlefield 5’s release date, it is expected that COD’s biggest rival will also be launching their next installment near the end of October. With such competition, this 2018 launch window is probably something other publishers would like to avoid.

Look out for the special event May 17th in which Activision will be releasing more information on the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 with a more public reveal, which will hopefully give COD lovers more insight in to the game play, multiplayer games, environments and of course the zombies in the new Black Ops game.

Just recently, Black Ops 3 received an update, it is rumored that hints relating to the next installment of the series could be hidden in the update.
