With Fortnite: Battle Royale and PUBG (Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds) leading the charge, Battle Royale Style Gameplay seems like the hottest thing.
Just recently Fortnite surpassed 40 million downloads. On another occasion the cartoonish 3rd person survival game had over 3 million users playing at one time. Just last week Fortnite received a major update patch. You can read more about the update in the link below
PUBG, a more realistic looking survival game, allows 1st person and 3rd person. Like Fortnite: Battle Royale, PUBG is also a work in progress. The game has received many updates with more on the way. As a matter of fact, PUBG is not even “fully released”. Despite all of the bugs, PUBG has not failed to attract the masses.
So with the masses seeking the battle royale experience, will other popular titles take a crack at it? Is this a copy cat world we live in? We have seen many games over the years incorporate some type of firefight/ horde mode. Is it possible that at least some of these titles take a crack at a battle royale mode?
Lets take a look at a few big budget titles. Halo, Call of Duty, Gears of War and Battlefield. The titles mentioned are not the only possibilities. I am simply using shooters with big development resources already behind them as possible candidates.
With the exception of Battlefield, all of the games mentioned have incorporated a firefight, horde or some type of survival mode in their games. Especially when a similar mode was previously well received in another popular game. With so many players jumping into the world of battle royale, what would stop the developers of the mentioned titles from taking a crack at it?
Not that they are the most likely, but DICE would be the developer who could pull it off the best with their Battlefield franchise. The map size is already there, along with many structures to accommodate such game play. Like PUBG, Battlefield is realistic but has some of the best gun handling mechanics already built into a game. So much wonderful frame work already there to work with.
I am not making a prediction that the games mentioned above will install a battle royale mode. They are just possible candidates. One thing is for sure, some already well known game is going to take it on.
Tell us what games you would like to see jump into the world of battle royale.
